Permaculture

With reports that the world is coming closer to ‘peak oil’ production with its eventual decline, more and more people are becoming aware of the need to live more sustainable lives.

Permaculture (permanent agriculture), was developed in Tasmania in the 1970’s by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren and is defined as the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems which have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems. Permaculture is not a form of gardening such as biodynamic’s but rather it aims to integrate land and people, providing food, energy, shelter and other material in a sustainable way.

One of the main philosophies of permaculture is to work harmoniously with nature and to set up systems that are self regulating and provide multiple functions.
