EKO Building Biology was called into the home of expectant parent Carmal who was concerned about health effects of renovations in her home along with radiofrequency fields in and around her home as she had heard about links between electromagnetic fields and autism and was concerned about the risk to her baby. Carmal also had some concerns about using their current brands of washing powder as grey water on their vegetable garden and also asked for non toxic alternatives for ant control. EKO Building Biology had visited Carmal in her previous home, where she was concerned about her partner’s allergies, as this was rented home it was more difficult to make solid recommendations as many relied on the landlord fixing gas combustion issues, old carpets needed replacing and moisture and mould problems needed remedying.
RecommendationsThe RF baby monitor had high levels of radio frequencies that greatly exceeded building biology standards; using an RF meter we did find a safe area within the bedroom to mount the monitor approximately 2 meters from where the new baby will sleep. It was also recommended that existing cordless phones be replaced in the future with standard cord phones to reduce high levels of RF fields and that mobile phone use be kept to a minimum. The washing powder they were currently using had aluminium salts and petrochemical ingredients that especially as an expectant mother she should not be using on a vegetable garden, we recommended a safer alternative. Non-toxic alternatives were given to help control ants.
Carmal’s Response“Thankyou for your recommendations and ongoing support its nice to know that I can have a certain amount of control in creating a safe home environment for my family, it gives us piece of mind. I also liked that you gave many options that suited differing financial situations.” |
